A Boston multifamily developer unveiled plans for redevelopment of Worcester’s Table Talk Pies property with a $36 million apartment and retail project.
Boston Capital has agreed to buy the bakery’s manufacturing site, and plans to break ground as soon as 2022 on the project, including affordable housing and retail space, Boston Capital Vice President of Acquisitions Richard Mazzocchi said at a Thursday press conference.
Table Talk Pies plans to relocate from the Kelley Square property, where it has operated for 75 years, to a newly-constructed bakery elsewhere in Worcester.
At Thursday’s press conference, City Manager Edward Augustus credited the development of the neighboring Polar Park baseball stadium as a catalyst for Boston Capital’s interest in the Canal District. The $132 million future home of the Boston Red Sox’ AAA affiliate is scheduled to open this spring.
Officials also touted plans by Worcester developer Churchill James LLC to redevelop the former Lucky Dog Music Hall at 89 Green St. as a candlepin bowling alley and pizza restaurant.
The Boston Capital project will rise across the street from the new Worcester Public Market, a 12,000-square-foot combination farmers’ market and food hall anchoring a 4-story 48-unit apartment building.
Table Talk Pies began construction last summer on a new bakery at the former Crompton & Knowles mill on Gardner Street in Worcester. In 2019, the company completed a new cold storage facility in South Worcester.
