Diebold Nixdorf U.S. Connections Tour Truck.

Representatives from Diebold Nixdorf, a provider of ATM and retail technology to banks, credit unions and retail stores, are traveling across the country in an 18-wheeler as part of their U.S. Connections Tour to show what the future of the retail store and bank branch could look like.

The truck stopped by the Boston Marriott last week, where Banker & Tradesman got an inside look at new ATM features including cardless payments, near field communication, beacon technology, biometric authentication, predictive analytics, artificial-intelligence-customized shopping experiences and more.

Here were just a few of the unique concepts featured on the truck:

Essence Concept: Powered by software-driven interactions and multi-touch functionalities such as swipe, scroll and smart zoom, Essence, known as the through-the-wall concept, seeks to enhance and modernize everyday consumer transactions. With an encrypted touch screen, card access for both EMV chip readers and NFC authentication and large capacity recycler/dispenser, the terminal offers indispensable functionality for the future.

Irving Concept: A screenless, cardless, PIN-less terminal, this concept upends the traditional interface with a “bring your own device” approach. The card reader, PIN pad and physical screen are eliminated, with a consumer’s mobile device becoming the primary interaction point, allowing transactions to be scheduled using the screen. This terminal is also scalable, with the ability to function as an ATM or POS self-checkout device when paired with a retailer’s mobile shopping application such as TPiShop.

Extreme Concept: This concept enables financial institutions and retailers to embrace the future of consumer transactions while maximizing their current infrastructure and technology. At just under 10 inches wide, this concept enables cash in and out transactions and uses an EMV chip reader and NFC contactless. It also has a virtual electronic PIN pad (EPP) and can function as an ATM and POS self-checkout unit when paired with a retailer’s mobile shopping application such as TPiShop, enabling an unprecedented level of consumer convenience, according to Diebold.
