Mayor Thomas Menino will be on-hand to ogle the gourmet victuals at the grand opening of Foodies Market at 230 West Broadway in South Boston, just over two months after a fire caused $100,000 worth of damage to the building.
The new market serves an area of South Boston often bemoaned by its new young professional resident base as lacking sufficient food shopping destinations, especially those hesitant to venture onto family-friendly East Broadway.
The Southie branch is the newest and third store for owners Victor Leon and Victor Leon Jr., who have operated a similar market in the city’s South End since 1998. The other store is in Duxbury.
