David Grissino of Boston-based architecture firm Goody Clancy has received the 2010 young architects award from The American Institute of Architects (AIA).

The national award honors individuals who have shown exceptional leadership and made significant contributions to the profession early in their careers. This award recognized David’s commitment to design excellence and civic engagement both in his professional activities and in the communities where he lives and works.

At Goody Clancy, David serves as a senior urban designer, and has been a part of a wide range of architecture and urban planning project types, including housing, neighborhood revitalization, waterfront redevelopment, and campus planning.

As an architect, Grissino has contributed to award-winning projects, including work at Case Western Reserve University and the University of Chicago, and as an urban designer to the Unified New Orleans Plan for post-Katrina recovery, the Institutional Master Plan for the Berklee College of Music in Boston, and the Kennedy Street Revitalization Plan in Washington D.C.

Grissino serves as chair of design for the Prudential Projects Advisory Committee, a community-based group which oversees development at the Prudential Center in Boston. David also represents the Commonwealth’s design interests as the state architect for the Designer Selection Committee of the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development. In his hometown of Wellesley, Grissino is a member of the Zoning Board of Appeals and served as the chair of the design review board.

"In a city with a rich tradition of civic activism, David has broken new ground as a model for constructive leadership in resolving the inevitable conflicts posed by development in a mature community," said David Dixon, principal of Planning and Urban Design at Goody Clancy. "He has elevated civic dialogue about important developments in Boston from a process that sought compromise to one that seeks good urban design."
