A North Andover contractor has been sentenced to four years in jail for failing to complete sunrooms he had been paid to build at more than 20 homes.
Prosecutors say 60-year-old James Brien was also ordered at sentencing in Lawrence Superior Court on Tuesday to pay more than $365,000 in restitution and serve 10 years of probation upon release. Brien was found guilty in January of 23 counts of general contractor violations.
The state attorney general’s office launched an investigation into Brien’s company, American Sunroom Co., in February 2004. Brien was indicted in June 2006. He pleaded not guilty and has been free on personal recognizance since then.
Prosecutors say Brien has been convicted in the past in connection to similar schemes. He did not speak in court. (AP)
