Suffolk Construction Co. has been selected by the Barnstable Municipal Airport Commission (BMAC) to provide preconstruction and construction management services for a new 35,000-square-foot terminal facility at Barnstable Municipal Airport.
The new terminal will be built adjacent to the existing terminal, which will be demolished as part of the project. The new terminal will accommodate ticketing facilities, baggage claim, airport management offices, airline offices, passenger and baggage screening areas, a restaurant and gift shop, Transportation Security Administration offices, and secure/nonsecure holding rooms. The project scope also includes a general reconfiguration of the existing parking lots, the construction of two new parking lots and a new airport circulation roadway.
The airport and existing terminal will remain operational throughout construction, the company said.
Designed by AECOM|Earth Tech, the new terminal will be built to achieve LEED Silver certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. Construction is scheduled to begin in September and be completed by October 2010.
