A $25 million bond by MassDevelopment will benefit The Skating Club of Boston’s relocation to a new 180,000-square-foot rink in the suburbs.

The 600-member figure skating club in March sold its 2-acre property at 1240 Soldiers Field Road to The Davis Cos. of Boston for $26.25 million. It is developing a 176,000-square-foot, three-rink complex on a 36-acre parcel at 750 University Ave. in Norwood, with plans to host up to 23 events a year, including international competitions. The property also will be used as a practice facility for the Norwood High School hockey team and youth programs.

The tax-exempt MassDevelopment bond was purchased by Dedham Institution for Savings.

Olympians Dick Button, Tenley Albright and Scott Hamilton are expected to appear at the groundbreaking ceremony on May 13.
Established in 1912, The Skating Club of Boston is the third oldest skating club in the U.S. and offers high-performance training program, competitive synchronized skating and Theatre On Ice teams, a therapeutic skating program and a junior activities leadership group for teens.
