Boston’s Suffolk Construction Co. recently won an $8 million contract to build a new facility at the Naval Submarine Base New London in Groton, Conn.

Suffolk is partnering with AECOM to construct a 13,498-square-foot waterfront operations small craft facility, which will consolidate port operations activities into one central building. The facility will include administrative space, classrooms, two high bays for boat maintenance and a painting booth.

"We are very excited and honored that the U.S. Department of the Navy selected Suffolk as the design-build contractor on this important project," said John F. Fish, Suffolk’s CEO. "We are confident that our knowledgeable project team and proven processes will result in a seamless construction management process and open more opportunities to work with clients in the federal government sector."

The waterfront operations small craft facility is the third project that Suffolk has won on the Submarine Base New London. The company previously managed a renovation and expansion to the base’s ambulatory care center and provided construction management services for 100 replacement housing units at Polaris Park.

Construction is scheduled to begin in February and will be completed in March 2011, according to a statement.
