U-Haul will soon offer a self-storage and retail facility at a Framingham office building it bought last year at 15 Pleasant St. Connector.
U-Haul Moving & Storage of Framingham-Southborough will soon be operating out of a temporary showroom and offering truck and trailer sharing and moving supplies. The company’s real estate arm, Amerco Real Estate, bought the former MetroWest Place building in April 2018 for $4.41 million, according to information on file at the Middlesex Registry of Deeds. The city’s planning board OK’d the plan in March.
“U-Haul will be converting the shell of this five-story office building into a modern self-storage and retail facility,” Scott Chase, president of the U-Haul Co. of Eastern Massachusetts, said in a statement. “Commercial properties have been stagnating. We don’t want to see this building remain vacant and become an eyesore in this community.”
Once the 93,088-square-foot space is renovated, it will include more than 600 indoor climate-controlled self-storage units with high-tech security features at what the company called “affordable price points.”
The building, built in 1969, is assessed at $5.98 million, according to city property records, and sits on 2.77 acres.
