Redevelopment of the former Mount Auburn Club property could bring another 225,000 square feet of newly-constructed office and lab space to East Watertown.

Alexandria Real Estate Equities and National Development are partnering on the proposal for the 6.3-acre tennis club property, which the developers acquired for $32.6 million in July.

The development team is proposing a 5-story R&D building along with 511 parking spaces located in a garage and surface lot.

The office-lab building with a glass and metal facade would be built along Coolidge Avenue with a two-story lobby including a cafe and fitness space connecting to outdoor patio and outdoor seating, according to a site plan application filed with the Watertown planning board.

A pedestrian bridge would link the second floor of the main building to the 400-space parking garage.

Designed by Boston-based Elkus Manfredi Architects, the complex will be situated to improve the public realm along Coolidge Avenue and connections to a perennial stream corridor that runs through the site, developers said. The designs are targeting LEED Silver certification.

The initial public meeting to review the site plan will be held Jan. 26.

Developers have made a series of commercial property acquisitions in the Allston and East Watertown area with an eye toward attracting higher-rent-paying life science tenants, including the WBZ-TV/CBS headquarters on Soldiers Field Road, the former Doble Engineering headquarters on Walnut Street and the Stadium Auto Body property on Western Avenue.
