A state agency is set to unveil plans for a pair of restaurants at the John B. Hynes Veterans Memorial Convention Center to help enliven the granite, slab-sided convention hall.

On Tuesday, the Massachusetts Convention Center Authority will hold a public meeting at 6 p.m. at Hynes to present a proposal for retail space in the 400,000-square-foot building.

“Meredith & Grew is marketing the space and our goal is to select tenants by the summer’s end,” said James Rooney, the MCCA’s executive director. “We want to let the community know that we’re looking to fill those spaces. We want to do something compatible with the Hynes and Boylston Street.”

The proposed $4.3 million retail space will be located in two areas. The first will span two levels along Boylston Street at the east corner of the building, adjacent to the Prudential Plaza. The second space will be located along the west corner at Dalton and Boylston streets. Each of these spaces will be approximately 10,000 square feet, Rooney said.

According to Rooney, the retail space could generate as much as $1 million annually for the MCCA.

Ten months ago, Rooney floated the idea of adding restaurants and eliminating a portion of the Hynes’ granite walls facing Boylston Street to make way for the retail space.
