CBT Architects is leaving its longtime home in the Bulfinch Triangle early next year in favor of a new 50,000-square-foot headquarters at One Constitution Wharf in Charlestown.

The firm will design the new offices to reflect changes in pandemic-era workspaces.

“We will be advancing our creative practice and how we design; it’s a very different day than it was before. The pandemic ended up being a catalyst for the way that our firm works, and this move is a way for us to rethink everything,” Principal and President David Nagahiro said in a statement.

The 54-year-old firm entered a sublease for the Charlestown space, part of the three-building Constitution Wharf property owned by developer Jamestown. Colliers International brokered the transaction.

The relocation will include space for the firm’s 200 employees on a single floor, in contrast to its multilevel workspaces in the brick-and-beam Canal Street location.

The move reflects new priorities for workplaces in the pandemic, including an emphasis on outdoor connections, fresh air and natural light, CBT said. Plans include an expanded maker space, photo and video studio and collaboration areas.

The firm’s existing offices at 110 Canal St. are being marketed by CBRE as leasing agent for the new owner, Quaker Lane Capital.
