Hanscom Federal Credit Union is now offering a "Green Vehicle Discount" program, providing members with loan discounts for buying environmentally friendly cars.

Hanscom FCU was among the financial trendsetters for environmental responsibility with its launch of a 0.50 percent discount for hybrid vehicles two years ago. The program is expanding to include newly popular electric and compressed natural gas cars, according to a statement. Hanscom will also continue to offer a 0.25 percent discount on loans for non-hybrid cars or motorcycles that get 30 miles or more per gallon.

"Part of what separates credit unions is the understanding that good financial practices are about more than bottom-line dollars and cents," said Chairman of the Board Paul Marotta. "Green vehicles are a vital, growing part of the planet’s future, and any small thing we can do to encourage this trend while still meeting priority one – supporting our members – is an easy call."

Hanscom FCU, headquartered at Hanscom Air Force Base, serves 44,207 members across the country and overseas through 14 branches, more than 85,000 service centers and surcharge-free ATMs, 24-hour telephone service and a web-based branch. The credit union holds $818 million in assets, according to a statement.
