The Seaport Advisory Council grant program has awarded more than $18 million in funding to support infrastructure improvements and job creation along the Commonwealth’s coast.

During Thursday’s meeting, the council approved 11 projects throughout the state, including projects in Marshfield and Scituate. Each included plans for infrastructure improvements and economic development in seaport communities.

In Marshfield, the council approved $1.08 million to support construction of the harbormaster facility project. The funds will be used to construct a new harbormaster building on Town Pier in Green Harbor. The current office is operating out of a rented trailer. The new facility will include 950 square feet for public use and will be a mixed-use facility with public restrooms and shower facilities. The town has already voted and approved the local required match of 25 percent.

In Scituate, the council approved $292,305 to the ongoing efforts at the Rehabilitation of Town Pier Project. The rehabilitation and modernization will include scientific research vessels and allow for additional excursion vessels.

Funding for projects approved by the Seaport Advisory Council is supported by the Energy and Environmental Bond Bill, approved by the legislature and authorized by Governor Patrick in 2008.

"As the Patrick Administration continues to invest in cities and towns across Massachusetts, we recognize and understand the importance of improved infrastructure in our seaport communities," said Mass. Department of Transportation Secretary Richard A. Davey in a statement.  "The Council, in partnership with seaport communities, will help sustain the regional industries, support job creation, and improve local economies up and down our coast."
