Apparel retailer Roots Canada is set to expand its U.S. brick-and-mortar presence with the scheduled June opening of two stores in the Boston suburbs.

The 45-year-old purveyor of casual clothing and accessories said it plans to open a nearly 4,000-square-foot store at National Development’s MarketStreet Lynnfield and 5,000-square-foot location at General Growth Properties’ Natick Mall.

Founded in 1973 as a Toronto-based casual footwear company, Roots branched out into sweatpants, footwear and accessories. Starting in 1976, it raised its international profile as a provider of boots and jackets to participants in the winter Olympics, and it was the official outfitter of Canada’s Olympic and Paralympic teams in 2000 and 2004.

Roots operates 116 company-owned stores in Canada, U.S. stores in Michigan, Utah and New York City, 109 stores in Taiwan and 29 in China.

Roots is scheduled to open up to 14 new U.S. stores by the end of 2019, CEO Jim Gabel said in a statement.
