The acquisition of a workplace real estate specialist is designed to give JLL more tech capabilities assisting companies trying to use space more efficiently.
JLL announced that it’s agreed to acquire BRG, a Dallas-based company that has 350 employees at offices in 28 North American cities, including 40 based in Boston.
“It gives us much greater strength and scale in occupancy planning and moves and changes: how companies manage their headcount and people in their space,” said John Forrest, JLL’s CEO for corporate solutions.
BRG added a Boston presence last year when it acquired Fox RPM, a project management and relocation specialist.
BRG’s employees will merge with JLL’s existing corporate solutions team, which also has approximately 350 employees. The new technology solutions team will be led by BRG CEO Traci Doane.
The acquisition takes place as companies in a wide range of industries are revamping how they use office space, adding more collaborative and conference space at the expense of private offices.
BRG helps tenants analyze data from a variety of facilities management software platforms that they use to analyze space needs and shape real estate moves.
“Clients are looking for better productivity in their real estate portfolios and you need better analytics to manage the data,” Doane said. “If you’re using multiple data sets, BRG is expert at helping clients how to figure out how to do that.”
The transaction is expected to close in July. Integration of the two units will begin during the third quarter, Forrest said.
