Boston Private Bank & Trust Co. has appointed four senior portfolio managers, expanding the bank’s investment management area.

Christopher J. O’Connell, who was promoted to sales manager, told Banker & Tradesman that the four new hires both filled open positions and expanded Boston Private’s offerings. The bank had been interested in hiring these individuals for awhile now, he added, and thought the opportunity was right to take them aboard.

Carl. J. (C.J.) Young has been named senior vice president and portfolio manager. Young’s responsibilities include managing individual and institutional accounts, investment research and economic analysis.

David M. Goss will serve as senior vice president and portfolio manager with responsibilities that include strategic development and implementation of the bank’s investment platform to provide an expanded array of investment opportunities for clients.

William R. Lavelle and Kelly C. McKernan have both been named vice president and portfolio manager. His responsibilities include managing individual and institutional accounts, investment research and economic analysis.

In addition, two employees have been promoted. O’Connell will be responsible for managing the bank’s team of sales professionals in addition to his role as senior vice president and portfolio manager.

Jason T. O’Connell has been promoted to director of research, responsible for overseeing the analyst staff; coordinating in-house primary research; managing the relationships with and budget allocations to the firm’s external research, brokerage, and analytics technology providers in addition to his role as vice president and portfolio manager.

"This strategic expansion of our team helps to strengthen our expertise, expand our investment platform and enables us to further deepen relationships with clients, offering a customized investment approach that is the hallmark of the bank," said Jay Henderson, executive vice president/investment management and trust, Boston Private Bank & Trust Co.
