Construction crews have begun demolition of the façade at Chelmsford Town Center as the 60,000-square-foot retail plaza at 18 Boston Road is redeveloped.

Winstanley Enterprises of Concord bought the 8.5-acre site on Aug. 23 for $7.6 million from Stop & Shop Supermarket Co. and plans to spend $4.5 million updating the property. The plaza was previously anchored by Stop & Shop and Marshalls.

The renovations include a modern brick façade, a clock tower and new storefronts. New landscaping and a patio area will be added.

New tenants will include a 17,000-square-foot Choice Fitness and NOBO Modern Japanese Restaurant & Bar. Existing tenants include CVS, Bank of America and Friendly’s. Storefronts ranging from 1,200 to 10,000 square feet are available.

The construction phase is expected to be completed in July. Chelmsford Town Center will be managed by Winstanley Enterprises. The leasing agent is Blackline Retail Group.

Winstanley owns and operates 43 properties totaling 5.5 million square feet.
