Christy Mihos, the convenience store magnate who ran for Massachusetts governor as an independent candidate in 2006 and as a Republican in 2010, has sold his Great Island home in Yarmouth for $6.1 million.
Mihos made a fortune operating a chain of convenience stores before entering politics. He came to prominence as a critic of wasteful spending on the Big Dig after he was appointed to a position at the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority.
The Cape Cod Times has reported that the millions Mihos spent on his political ambitions helped break apart his marriage. Mihos’ wife also accused her husband of assaulting her and that he was “addicted to hiring prostitutes, strippers and porn stars for sex,” according to published reports. He later sought treatment.
Mihos and his wife, Andrea, filed for divorce last year and early this year he declared bankruptcy.
