A former school in Sharon will be unveiled as an apartment complex next week.

On Monday at 10:30 a.m., officials will gather at the former Charles R. Wilber School to unveil 75 housing units. The building at 75 South Main St. in Sharon was built in 1922 to serve as an elementary school.

The building expanded and became a high school in 1929, then continued to serve as a school and as a meeting place for town functions until it closed in 1981. It remained vacant for nearly three decades until its recent renovation.

Beacon Communities LLC, Frontier Enterprises Inc., Massachusetts Housing Partnership, MassDevelopment, Bank of America, AEGON USA Realty Advisors, Prellwitz Chilinski Associates Inc. joined to convert the building into apartments.

U.S. Representative Barney Frank, State Sen. Brian Joyce and James Timilty, Selectman William Heitin, Department of Housing and Community Development Undersecretary Tina Brooks, MassDevelopment President/CEO Robert Culver, Massachusetts Housing Partnership Executive Director Clark Ziegler, Bank of America Community Development Banking Senior Client Manager Elizabeth Gruber, Frontier Enterprises principal Joseph Timilty, and Beacon Communities CEO Howard Cohen are scheduled to be on hand to celebrate the completion of the project.
