The Gilbane Building Co. has been awarded a Project Achievement Award from the Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) for its work at South Station in Boston.
The award, which Gilbane received in the renovation/modernization category, recognizes projects that demonstrate exemplary use of construction management techniques and services.
The awards committee is composed of owners and professional construction managers. It considers outcomes, overall management, safety and cost management, among other factors.
“It is no easy feat executing work and maintaining the highest level of safety in the second largest transportation hub in New England,” Ryan Hutchins, senior vice president and business unit leader for Gilbane’s New England region, said in a statement. “Nearly 130,000 commuters pass through South Station on a daily basis. Although it was a challenging project, it was a rewarding one in that the entire team worked collaboratively to ensure the safety of the public, exceed the owner’s expectations and overcome any complexities or challenges.”
Gilbane, founded in 1873, is also involved with the in the MBTA Green Line Extension project, currently underway.
