IC Federal Credit Union has awarded $1,000 scholarships to five high school students entering college this year.

The winners are Abigail Capone, Fitchburg High School; Anthony DeCicco, Leominster High School; Christopher Greenlee, Oakmont Regional High School; Raymond Harrison, Leominster High School and Sandy Lor, Fitchburg High School.

To compete for the scholarships, applicants were required to write an essay detailing how they would help the community in which they live, what type of program they would endorse or create, and how they would spread the message throughout the community to promote this program.

"Higher education is an opportunity that we want every member of our community to have," said Tony Cali, president and CEO of IC Federal Credit Union. "These students have all shown a dedication to their studies, their futures and their community, and that’s why we wanted to help make the financial aspect of college a little less burdensome."
