Douglas J. Lareau and Roger C. Tougas have recently joined the Boston-based Shawmut Design and Construction team as chief legal counsel and chief financial officer, respectively.

The hiring of Lareau as the chief legal counsel solidifies the construction company’s in-house legal and risk management expertise. "Doug’s experience in handling complex contractual issues with numerous Fortune 500 companies, coupled with his background in finance and high-tech give him a well-rounded approach in working with Shawmut’s diverse client base," said William Hughes, president.

Tougas’ role as CFO will make him responsible for the leadership and management of Shawmut’s finance and accounting divisions. "Roger has more than 20 years experience in the construction business," said Hughes. "He is a leading industry expert who will add further depth to our executive team and will help us position and drive the company through the economic downturn, ensuring Shawmut’s continued market leadership."

Hughes believes both of the new hires reflect the company’s forward thinking in the midst of what is considered a down market in construction. "We are bringing in the right people to move this company forward in a timely, proactive way," he said.
