The average rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage in the state fell below 5 percent last week to 4.98 percent, down from 5.03 percent the prior week, according to online mortgage tracker Zillow.
Nationwide, the average rate fell to 4.94 percent from 4.99 percent the prior week.
Rates in Texas and Virginia decreased the most, from 4.93 percent to 4.82 percent in Texas and from 5.06 percent to 4.95 percent in Virginia.
Illinois mortgage rates at 5.07 percent were the highest in the country, while Texas mortgage rates (4.82 percent) were the lowest.
