The average rate for a 30-year fixed mortgage in the state inched up to 4.81 last week from 4.78 percent the prior week, according to online mortgage tracker Zillow.

Nationwide, the average rate rose to 4.77 percent from 4.72 percent the prior week.

Mortgage rates in Connecticut and Texas increased the most, from 4.8 percent to 4.9 percent and 4.64 percent to 4.74 percent, respectively.

New York and Illinois posted the highest mortgage rates at 4.96 percent and 4.95 percent. Rates in Colorado (4.69 percent) and California (4.72 percent) were the lowest.
