There is a new leadership at the Boston law firm Nutter.

The company announced the appointment of Liam T. O’Connell and Michael E. Scott as Nutter’s co-managing partners earlier this week. They succeed Deborah J. Manus, whose term as managing partner concludes at the end of June.

“Succession planning is important to all businesses, including our own, and choosing the right leadership – in this case Liam and Mike – to lead us into the future is a wonderful next step for Nutter and our clients,” Manus, managing partner since 2011, said in a statement.

During Manus’ tenure, Nutter experienced significant revenue growth and also expanded the firm’s practice in the areas of intellectual property, IP litigation, corporate, real estate and private clients. Manus also prioritized diversity and inclusion through the adoption of a firm wide diversity and inclusion strategic plan and attorney training and development.

She has held leadership positions at the Boston Bar Association, in Nantucket-based nonprofits and is active in the Massachusetts Women Forum. She has also been named a “Lawyer of the Year” and a “Top Women of Law” by Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly, and recognized as a “Women who Mean Business” honoree by the Boston Business Journal.

O’Connell joined Nutter in 2008 and is a member of the firm’s executive committee, chairman of the firm’s labor, employment and benefits practice group and former chairman of the firm’s litigation department.

“Mike and I are grateful for and enthusiastic about the opportunity to lead Nutter,” he said in a statement. “The firm continues to attract and retain extremely talented attorneys and staff, and we are excited about the initiatives the firm has undertaken in recent years. I am proud to take on this new role.”

Scott, also a member of the firm’s executive committee, joined the firm in 1999. He is currently co-chairman of the lateral partner hiring committee and is a member of the firm’s diversity and inclusion executive committee. Previously, he chaired the firm’s real estate department.

“To be selected by the Nutter partnership to lead the firm into the future is an honor,” Scott said in a statement. “Deb has accomplished so much in eight years, and we look forward to continue building upon the significant business growth the firm has experienced under her leadership.”
