A partnership between The Community Builders of Boston and the Pine Street Inn will bring 202 income-restricted and supportive housing units to Jamaica Plain.
The Boston Planning and Development Agency’s board of directors Thursday approved the project including 140 units for Pine Street Inn clients, and 62 units reserved for households earning 30 to 80 percent of the area median income.
The site at 3368 Washington St. includes an existing office building owned by the Pine Street Inn homeless shelter, which will temporarily relocate during construction.
Revenues from an increased hotel tax projected to generate $5 million annually are expected to subsidize the supportive housing component, through the city’s Way Home Fund created in 2018 to pay for long-term housing for the homeless.
Completion of the Jamaica Plain project will bring the Pine Street Inn’s housing inventory in Boston and Brookline to nearly 1,000 units.
“With the average age of our tenants at 55, this will provide a safe, secure community as they grow older,” Pine Street Inn President Lyndia Downie said in a statement.
