Life with roommates is nothing new in Allston, but now a development team is moving forward with a large-scale project designed specifically designed to accommodate group housing arrangements.
Boylston Properties and ARX Urban are eyeing a parking lot on Lincoln Street for a 6-story, 129,175-square-foot co-living complex. The team proposes 80 apartment units, including 65 four-bedroom units containing two or three bathrooms.
The 0.75 acre site across from 500 Lincoln St. is currently used a 45-space parking lot. Located 0.7 miles from the MBTA’s Boston Landing Commuter Rail station, the project would include 30 at-grade garaged parking spaces and parking for 120 bicycles.
The project will require variances and conditional use permits from the Zoning Board of Appeals, according to a notification letter to the Boston Planning and Development Agency by developers Andrew Copelotti of Boylston Properties and ARX Urban’s Benjamin Moll.
The Allston proposal comes two weeks after Newton-based National Development submitted revisions to its previously approved 7INK by Ollie co-living development at 217 Albany St. in South End.
A majority of the units in the 139,900-square-foot tower would have been studios under the original plans. National Development now proposes adding 34 three- and four-bedroom units while eliminating 113 studios. The changes were prompted by rising demand for multi-bedroom units in the target 25- to 40-year-old demographic, developers said.
