Groundbreaking is scheduled today for The Skating Club of Boston’s $37 million new training facility, as the 107-year-old organization prepares to relocate from Allston to Norwood.

The 180,000-square-foot facility at 750 University Ave. is scheduled for completion in summer 2020. Designed by Studio Troika, it will include three rinks, training areas, locker rooms, library and meeting rooms, offices and lobby cafe.

An Olympic-sized arena, The Performance Center, will have capacity for 2,500 spectators. A second dedicated figure skating rink will be equipped with 1,500 seats. The second rink will be a dedicated figure-skating rink for training and competitive events with 1,500 seats. A third 400-seat multipurpose rink will be equipped for hockey. And the 7,000-square-foot Micheli Center will provide fitness, injury prevention and wellness services.

The club sold its rink property on Western Avenue in Allston to a Boston-based developer The Davis Cos. for $26.25 million in March.

The project team on the Norwood facility includes J. Calnan & Assoc. and Northstar Project and Real Estate Services. Financing was provided in part by Dedham Institution for Savings and MassDevelopment.
