Construction crews have completed framing of the The Skating Club of Boston’s new suburban home as they work toward a target completion date in summer 2020.
A topping-off ceremony was held Wednesday at the 750 University Ave. property in Norwood, which is being transformed into a 179,000-square-foot home for the nonprofit organization.
The Norwood project will include an Olympic-sized arena for figure and speed skating events with capacity for 2,500 spectators. The rink is one of three in the facility, along with a 1,500-seat figure skating rink and a 400-seat multipurpose rink for hockey.
A sports medicine and injury prevention center, known as the Marilyn Kasputys Branch of the Micheli Center, will occupy 7,000 square feet.
“This state-of-the-art facility will not only be the envy of the skating world, but also athletic complexes across New England because of its modern design and features,” Steve Robak, Executive vice president and partner at J. Calnan & Assoc., said in a statement.
In March, the club sold its longtime home at 1240 Soldiers Field Road in Brighton to The Davis Cos. of Boston for $26.25 million.
