MassHousing has awarded $171,963 in financing to help create or preserve affordable sober housing in Boston, Hingham and Northampton.
The MassHousing nonprofit subsidiary corporation Center for Community Recovery Innovations Inc. (CCRI) is providing the grants, according to a statement.
"These latest grants from CCRI will help a diverse group of people who are in great need of quality affordable sober housing,” said MassHousing Executive Director Thomas R. Gleason. "We are pleased to be able to assist in the creation or preservation of this very important type of housing that helps people fighting addiction.”
The following sober housing organizations are receiving grants:
• Catholic Charitable Bureau, Archdiocese of Boston, Nazareth Residence, Roxbury: $21,963 to help with renovations to the kitchen at the eight-unit residence for women and children affected by HIV/AIDS.
• Father Bills and Mainspring, Fort Hill Veterans Supported Housing, Hingham: $75,000 to help create six new units of sober housing for male and female veterans. Financing partners include the town of Hingham.
• Friends of Hampshire County Homeless Individuals Inc., Northampton: $75,000 to help create six new units of sober housing for chronically homeless men. Financing partners include the Gandara Center and the city of Northampton.
