John Fish, the chairman and CEO of Suffolk Construction Co., has been chosen as the new chair of the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce.
His two-year term will begin on May 14, when he is inaugurated at the chamber’s 2014 annual meeting. Fish was the unanimous choice of the chamber’s executive and nominating committees.
“John is deeply ingrained in the fabric of our city and region, and his record of achievement in business and philanthropy is truly impressive,” said Karen Kaplan, CEO of Hill Holliday and current chamber chair, in a statement. “His broad range of experiences and talents will be a tremendous asset to the chamber and its mission.”
Fish has led Suffolk, the largest builder in New England, for more than 30 years. As chairman and CEO, he is responsible for providing the vision and strategic direction for the company. Fish is also strongly committed to the business agenda of Boston, serving on a number of boards, including the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. He is also active in supporting important community, environmental, and social organizations, and serves as vice chairman of the board of trustees of Boston College, as a trustee of Tabor Academy, and on the board of Camp Harborview, among others. Fish is chairman of the Red & Blue Foundation, Suffolk’s nonprofit initiative.
