Boston-based Suffolk has been named construction manager for the largest school construction project in state history.
The $343 million Lowell High School construction and renovation project is scheduled to begin in 2021 and last for seven years.
The Massachusetts School Building Authority board of directors approved $210 million in state funding for the project in April. Architect Perkins Eastman is in the final design phase.
The city had earlier considered building a new high school at its Cawley Stadium property on Douglas Road. At a non-binding referendum in November 2017, voters endorsed a plan to rebuild the school at its existing downtown location.
