University Station, the mixed-use development in Westwood, has announced its initial lineup of retailers as it prepares to launch on March 8 with the opening of a Target store.

Newton-based New England Development said Wednesday it has signed leases with Wegmans, Marshalls/HomeGoods, Nordstrom Rack, Sports Authority, PetSmart, Michaels, ULTA Beauty, Kay Jewelers, Starbucks, Smashburger, Famous Footwear, Fidelity Investments, dressbarn, David’s Bridal, Panera Bread and Charming Charlie.

The mixed-use development is being built at a 130-acre former industrial park near the MBTA’s University Avenue station and will kick off with a 550,000-square-foot initial phase of retail and restaurant space. Additional stores and restaurants, a Life Time Athletic spa, a 64-unit Bridges by Epoch memory care facility and a 350-unit luxury apartment complex will open later in the year. The apartments are being developed by The Hanover Cos., which is also building the 369-unit 100 Pier 4 apartment complex in Boston’s Seaport District. They will be managed by Gables Residential.

New England Development is partnering with Eastern Real Estate and National Development on the project. The group took over the project from Boston-based Cabot, Cabot & Forbes, which originally proposed the redevelopment but was unable to obtain financing during the recession.

Future phases of the project will include up to 350 addition residences, a hotel and up to 350,000 square feet of offices.
